Black Economics is undergoing research about the video game industry in 2022, with regards to Hardware, Game Studios, Developers, and income and funding.
- In 2019, the gaming industry was speculated to have been worth $151.9 billion. These figures contain data for all platforms – namely, PC, mobile, console, Mac, and tablet.
- The global gaming market is set to reach $256.97 billion by 2025.
- More than 2.5 billion people worldwide play games.

The percentage of game players around the world in different races and ethnicities is around the same, where there is equal development, power supply and hardware.
So the question is – is the money being earned equitably across genders or across races? Where are the black developers and black-owned game studios, and are they progressing in this lucrative market. All aspects of the gaming industry are being considered, such as characters in the games, messaging, funding, gender representations and racial diversity.
We will be visiting the London Games Festival to get some answers in April 2022. (games.london)
Prior to attending this festival, we did our own research in March 2022. A mini survey was created to assess the widespread pastime of video game playing. The initial results are given below after 27 responses. An update to this page will be published after more responses have come in.
