About Black Economics

This website brings to you articles, videos and news about black entrepreneurs, business success, business ideas, professional career successes and how to documents. This website also brings you issues and  problems  which need solving.  Warts and all, we have to confront the elephants in the room – and suggest answers – and highlight when an individual or organisation has found solutions.  We focus mainly on positive news.

The Black Economics Website was first uploaded in 2005, following the Katrina Hurricane in New Orleans, USA; and the Race riots in Birmingham, UK of October 2005. These two events caused us to puzzle at the wealth of America (including many African Americans) compared with the poverty displayed following the floods.

That same year we were  puzzled about the  politics and economics of  widespread Asian ownership of Afro hair and beauty retail shops in Birmingham, UK – patronised 100% by black people.  Personal research in one of these stores informed us that many were earning upwards of £3000 per day.  We have to admire the Asian tenacity for making these products they do not use –  available for black customers, since the black community have not provided these outlets for themselves; and mainstream supermarkets and chemists have been reticent to stock products specific to black needs even up to 2020.

Though we cannot change history, we might be able to influence the future.  Things may be changing.  Capitalism allows freedom.  If a black person wants to sell Russian cultural gifts or Chinese food – there is no law against that.  But black people need to consider that their spending is making other nationalities very rich indeed, for which we get the products and little else in return.

Your sister is starving while you feed your distant neighbour.

We appreciate the support of all races, religions and cultures.  We encourage you to seek out black businesses to support.  There are some amazing products out there being produced by black creatives.  Use our directory.

Black Business Directory – BlackBizApp.net

On this site you will also find a directory of Businesses owned or part-owned by African Americans, Africans, Caribbeans and people of African diaspora.  Yes, too many people assume that black people don’t own businesses, and that apart from Jay Z, Beyonce, P. Diddy and Rihanna and 10 others,  we don’t have a business mind.  There are millions of black-owned businesses and products.  We only have a small portion of these in our directory.  Please Support, Patronise and Visit their websites often.

Our Knowledge Bank

We source articles about outstanding Individuals,  Entrepreneurs, Corporate Stars, Wealth, Poverty,  & Lifestyles and this website is is an electronic library of information about the various economic levels of black communities around the world.  Use this knowledge and solid business principles  to inspire, reduce poverty, and accelerate wealth in the diaspora.

We also provide generic business and professional information provided through guest posts from mainstream companies.  The information provided in this posts are useful for growth and development and may contain sponsored links.

How can we make a change?

BlackEconomics is a focus on economic development within the African diaspora in the UK, USA, Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil and other countries. It is our opinion that given the talent, brain-power and wealth of resources within the black world, our progress as a race can be accelerated.

We do not subscribe to the concept that black communities  are continually at the bottom of the pile. Great wealth is not the preserve of the Anglo Saxon man or woman or the Asian man or the Russian. There are great things happening around the world in black communities,  and we use this website to demonstrate this and motivate others to attain greater things.

The information on this site is useful for any race, culture, religion or nationality. It’s good to be aware of what is going on in your world. As we showcase black-owned businesses, we would like to encourage all people to support them, encourage them and buy from them. Stay Informed.  Please join our mailing list.

Inspiration

The name of this website was inspired by the book “Black Economics” by Jawanza Kunjufu.   The book is a micro and macro-analysis of economic conditions in the black community which explores:

a) why black people earn only 61 percent of a white person’s income, and this figure is falling

b) why most black people prefer to maintain a ‘good job’ rather than own and operate their own businesses, and

c) why African American consumers in the USA only spend 3 percent of their one trillion dollars in black businesses.

If that 3% was increased to even 20% would that not make a huge difference to the survival rate of many black businesses, and raising the economic status of the black community as a whole.

Jawanza Kunjufu came to the UK to speak at the first Black Economics ACE Conference in May 2012.

May this website inspire you to Make a Difference.

ACES

We want to Accelerate Commercial and Economic Success (ACES) among those who for too long have been insulted, mistreated, not promoted, not hired, downtrodden, abused, ignored, cast aside, kicked and wrongly told that not to expect much.   For people who have the audacity to think like the person who said to a giant like Lebron James – Shut up and Dribble…  Here we come.

We will be producing a Magazine called ACES very soon.

CHANGE?

It may be that things are a changing.  The BLM protests of the Summer of 2020 has opened eyes to some of the inequalities going on.  It’s a shame it took a tragic death for change to start.  But Covid 19 has also unmasked our vulnerabilities. We detail this in our Covid19 section which you can see in the red box on this page.
